A responsible source in Al-Falouja local council said that Mr Najm Abdullah Al-Issawi, who was the local council leader ,was assassinated with his son today’s evening by unknown gunmen.
The source indicated that masked gunmen stormed Mr Al-Issawi house in the Al_Askari ( Millitary) quarter east of Falouja. Gunmen opened their automatic guns fires at 6.30pm before the breaking the fast of the second Ramadan days.
The source mentioned the attack inflicted severe injuries in Mr Issawi and his son Orfan. Both were taken to the nearby Taleb Al-Janabi hospital but died before admission
Mr Najm, who was a lawyer and in his fifties, belong to the Issawi clan. Issawi clan is one of the biggest clans in Al-Falouja and its surroundings. Mr Issawi took his council leader post following the murder of the previous leader Sheikh Kamal Shakir Al-Tikriti who was also assassinated by unknown gunmen.
The local council of Al-Falouja is not elected directly by the citizens of this city but selected from candidates forwarded by the city civil groups and parties.
